In preparation for the AP Exam on May 14, Mrs. Brownlee's AP Language students are investigating the real-life murder of 18-year-old Ella Barham of Boone County, Arkansas, as documented in Remembering Ella by Nita Gould. Students will utilize a variety of primary sources, such as newspaper articles and photographs, as well as Gould's text, to write a synthesis paper about how the murder of Ella Barham and the subsequent trial reflected and shaped public attitudes about justice, gender roles, and community identity in early 20th-century Arkansas. Author Nita Gould will visit on May 20th to answer students' questions about the investigation.
